This is a performance by my Ukulele Instructor, Vincent Cortese. He was a student of Roy Smeck and studied with him for over 10 years. The Ukulele he is playing is an old Martin Style 1 that he bought from Roy. Its one of the loudest Martins I have ever heard. Check it out for yourself. Happy 4th everyone! ENJOY!

Actually, those are just Martin soprano strings, the cheap ones. All the best to you and thanks for watching.

Nice playing, did you put any special sort of strings on it to give it that bright and lively sound?

Really impressive! Roy Smeck--born in Reading, PA--was a son of George M. and Florence Smeck.
His dad was a laborer who had trouble making ends meet. As a child, LeRoy lived in a different house every year, as they were always being forced to move.
