Isle of Wight Green Flag/ DANGER #3 Appley Park, Ryde

Green Flag Award?? its bloody dangerous!
The third video in my ISLE of Wight DANGERS series this one is concerning Appley Park, Ryde, where the council run a pitch and putt course endangering residents and visitors alike in a public park that was bequeathed to the people of Ryde for their use as a recreational area which is out of the question during the summer months is too dangerous due to complete novices hitting golf balls about at will with the blessing of the council.
The video is concerning the perimeter path running around the pitch & putt coarse and although it is outside the area of the warning notices it is regardless very dangerous due to flying golf balls, this partly due to the poor design of the course (the path runs behind the first green and closely parallel to the fifth hole) but mainly to the unsuitability of using a public park to house a golf course where there is no prerequisite for the participants to have ever played golf.
The council appear to consider they have renounced their responsibility for public safety in this area by merely installing signs stating "CAUTION GOLF IS PLAYED IN THIS AREA" and by displaying a statement that they are not liable for any injury caused.

well i've lived in ryde all my life and i cant say i've heard of someone getting hurt there, anyway the goverment shut that golf course down months ago so i wouldn't worry about it. orthou i do see where your going with this.

i love playing golf there... i got to agree ive pelted a few balls that have strayed across the path so i can see your point... ive lived in ryde 32 years and never heard of anyone getting hurt there apart from myself sliping over when it was wet there. ;)

superb insight as per normal-does squat for tourism but tells it like it is-there are so many organisations that should be taking note of this incisive,damaging-truthfull work

Also when this course was established there was a lot more tree cover but recently there have been no fewer than six trees cut down on the first hole alone- five of them behind the green! Leaving zero cover to this path whatsoever.

I have some footage showing them I will post it as a response.

-----Which is all academic though as the real issue here is not only the publics safety on the path but the whole area of this PUBLIC PARK.

They really are struggling to find justification for a situation which is entirely of their making and is wholly unacceptable and indefensible ...period.

Adding to your analyses of their lame excuses, if they state that players will be: "driving towards members of the public but only over considerable distances" doesn't it logically follow that they will therefore be taking a follow up shot towards them at a closer distance?
