Follow the curve of the needle to avoid tissue damage. And try to find more ways to minimize motion.

you never everted te egdes? which is the point i thought?

@chenk002 That's a terrible idea. There's nothing emergent about suturing a wound and your friend just set up his uncle for an infection.

Thanks for all your videos! I'm not a med student (yet) but started practicing a few types of sutures... Can you tell me where I can find the surface you are suturing on for my practicing? Thanks!

Very nice... +1

@doctorlyon I am not criticizing any one, but it may be a good idea for those of you that never operate outside of operation room to practice on different needles and material just for emergency. I found it incredibly hard to do suturing with certain types of threads, and also it is hard to bend needle on site (if you need a curved one )because the needles simply break.

@doctorlyon A high student of mine worked as forest fire fighter during summer breaks. Once his uncle injured himself on one of their patrolling tour in the Northern Ontario forest. He used fish hooks, fishing thread, and nothing else to mend his uncle. They were 15 minutes away from the helicopter pick-up point, and it took them three hours to get through the under growth. Eventually when they got to the ER the doctor opened up the dressing and said:" Oh, it is sutured." And sent them home

@doctorlyon Regarding your last sentence: this is clearly a demonstration, not practice. The intended audience (anyone suturing in the OR) would obviously already have sterile gloves on, ergo this doesn't set a bad precedent for PPE. Don't critique videos if you do so soley out of arrogance.
Nice Erin, I would like to make a few constructive criticisms, though I also found it difficult initially but do try to pull out and also change direction of the needle using only the tissue holding forceps and not by ur fingers protects u from needle injuries.
Cheers!
