English Club 1

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam -- Wish I'd found out about this sooner. HCMC has lots of English clubs where young Vietnamese people get together to socialize and practice talking in English. An acquaintance invited me to a meeting last Sunday morning, and I expected to find maybe a half-dozen people sitting quietly in a cafe. Instead there were about 250 people jammed into a big room at the Youth Culture Center, sitting in small groups and talking animatedly despite the sweltering heat. At the end of the conversation period, the club's most active members led everyone in a singalong.
