Russian SNL Plagiarism

I was quite amazed to see this video clip as a Russian new year special 2008. This clip is identical to an SNL skit from the mid 90's starring Chris Farley, Mike Myers and Alec Baldwin called "Japanese Game Show". The russian show is called Проводы Старого года с Максимом Галкиным.

I really really wish the original one was still on here (your link to it is broken now). I saw it over half a decade ago, and the way Chris Farley screams bloody murder at the end of it saying "I DONT SPEAK JAPANESE IM AMERICAN!!!!!" is just priceless lol

No, I haven't seen the original skit. Do you want to say that act is the same? I don't think that Galkin wanted to steal it. He did a parody and nothing else.

Basically if you watch the original, you'll notice that it is 99% identical. Even the set, and the 'fake japanese' is the same. My guess is that they didn't contact & got the rights to use this idea, which is theft of intellectual property: Plagiarism. But there is a possibility they got the rights, I just think it is extremely unlikely seeing as how Russians steal everything usually.

This is just a parody of that show. Why people should think that this is a plagiarism? Galkin is a great actor. He has his own show.

I'm Russian and frankly I'm ashamed. I think this sketch is pure fail. These dumb Russian shows need to be original and stop biting off American culture. It's pathetic.
