" - What do you know about Necrons, Brother Cassius?
- While Chaos might be the greatest threat to the Imperium - the seargant was starring at an Imperial city below the hill - the Necrons are the worst you could ever imagine, Brother...
- I see. But what makes them so deadly in your eyes?
The seargant changed his point of view on his Brother. They knew each other very well. They've stopped an Ork invasion many times. But it's the first time they need to explore the ancient catacombs beneath the underground, just under the nearest Imperial city. Cassius met the Necrons once. Even for a Space Marine, the nightmares are still returning to his mind.
- There's one thing that I hate about these.. these ... metal xenos! It's ... nothing. - said slowly.
- I do not understand your wisdom, Brother.
Cassius smiled lightly. He always enjoyed to hear such words about the way he speaks. So continuing his philosophy, he began to explain his Brother's doubts.
- Imagine an army... deadly army, marching forward. Just marching forward. No emotions. No anger. No bloodlust or urge to kill. None voices. Just a sound of walking metal.
- I understand. But I always thought a war battlecry shall lower the enemy's morale. - the Space Marine wanted to share his knowledge. However, the seargant decided to improve his sentence.
- A battlecry might be useful in two opposite ways, Brother. To encourage our hearts into battle, or to frighten the enemy with faith coming from our mouth. Surely, many of the Ork warbands we've met were afraid of the Emperor's name, floating around the battlefield like shadows.
The seargant was right. Shouting the name of the Emperor himself, warmed the frightened hearts of many Imperial Guardsmen. All they need is just a proof of righteous of their faith. The seargant knew that well.
- The worst thing about that metal scum ... - Cassius was continuing his explanations. - is that whatever you're shouting or trying to fool it ... it just does not react to any of your actions.
- Are they not afraid of the Emperor?
- I have some clues that the Necrons may be not even assured of his existence in the Universe. Probably, the name of our God-Emperor is not, what they would be afraid of. - Cassius just looked in the sky, lightly lifting his hands. - Forgive me, my Lord. I do not want to question your might, but I cannot lie to one of your Children. Forgive me.
The higher ranked Space Marine took a deep breath. He knew it is going to be a challenge, for the Emperor's Chosen. Even for them. '
Tribute to the deadliest army in the Warhammer 40.000 universe.
Although they're not strong in numbers like any other hostile armies to the Imperium of Man, nothing is scarrier on a battlefield than them.
