Dealership Training Filmstrip for 1938 Chevrolet with photos of squirrels, deer, snowcapped mountains aeroplanes and divers comparing the "Practical Beauty" of the Chevy to works of nature.
I fully agree. They claim the plastic is meant to crumble to absorb the shock of the crash. It barely helps. If a Smart gets hit from any side by a even a mid-sized car like the Malibu, it would get completely smashed in taking the passangers with it. It would make more sense to make car bodies thicker because the airbags help absorb the shock. Cars today are like every other consumer product, DISPOSABLE! Cars aren't even cars anymore, they're computerized toys on wheels.
my dad just bought a 1938 chevy master deluxe 2-door. he only paid about $3000 for it. it looks new and everything is original, he got it from a friend. it was in the movie " the Natural" which was filmed in buffalo.
I own a 1938 Chevy Master Deluxe 4-door sedan that I bought in 1965. In 1976, we took it down to bare metal and were blown away by the fit and finish. These cars were build by true craftsmen.
Having said all this - it is still a chevy and will only rust away to nothing in a few short years!
I'd opt for the Ford 85 hp V8!

The design constraints of today are "how cheap can we make it without raising safety concerns?" or...
"Plastic...we need MORE plastic!"
