Kunqu Opera is one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera. Kunqu boasts a 600-year history and its influence can be seen in other forms of Chinese theatre, such as Peking Opera.

In the following video, hear from Cheng Pei-kai, director and professor at the Chinese Civilisation Centre in the City University of Hong Kong about the importance of kunqu. Also watch the Zhejiang Kunqu Opera Troupe as they perform one of Kunqu's most celebrated operas: The Peony Pavilion

    Yes, of cause.

  • So is Kunqu the mother of Peking Opera too?

  • @sanasorilor I think you can, but kunqu is not easy to learn

  • @sanasorilor

I know a japanese, but sorry forgot his name, he took part in the performance of peach blossom fan,and was the leading actor

  • If an european would like to come to China and learn this type of theatre, without knowing too much chinese, does he/she have any chance?
