In America tech's can get an associate degree, then move up to be a full PE. It's too bad where ever you live, that 'P.Engs' feel their role is to hold civil techs down.
ACTUALLY, Engineering techs can have a 2 or 4 year degree and even be a PE. In regards to a 2 year degree, those guys do just as much if not more work than the PE...A PE is hired alot of times just to check the Techs work and stamp it. Look up some Engineering Colleges, there are many Engineering Technology 4 year degrees out there.
Eng techs DO NOT decide where it is going to be placed, how much it will cost.... tech are not even close to being qualified to answering this. Techs is a 2 year diploma.. Civil Engineers.. P.Engs answer these questions and are legally responsible for the answers... techs aren't
