I used to have cats (both have died unfortunately) who at least new enough to paw at the door knob. They didn't have the dexterity to turn it, but at least they could get our attention.

I love big dogs, my mom has small dogs, but big dogs have a "personality". Did you see that video of the Samoyed (that was my dog breed) opening the fridge and fetching a beer?
