could someone explain to me the relationship between kreisler's and dvorak's slavonic dance no. 1?
-
I have the sheet music for violin, arranged by Fritz Kreisler. At the bottom it reads: "Originally published as Slovonic Dances/No.1 G Minor. Kreisler's arrangement, however, is of Op. 46. No 2, transposed from the original in E Minor."

Pity: would have loved to hear the real Kreisler

I'm almost positive this is number two, not sure from which set.

your soul not your musical vocabulary

jessicar55-2ndviolinist is right. The '30's recordings by Elman of Tchakovsky's violin concerto are untouchable- PERIOD!
-
jessicar-Try Rabin and Hassid next in your quest for perfection.

He's certainly not the only great violinist. Try to find him playing Mozart's 4th Concerto. He slides but less than in romantic works and I think Mozart would have approved, he did marry a singer and singers connect notes. Elman plays the best Tchaikovsky with Barbirolli in the '30s. Fritz would be wrong for it and Paganini. Prihoda is best for his works. Heifetz, much better than players of today, started the excitement at the price of beauty school. Sorry, that's what I hear.

Great of course,but not a Hassid,Rabin,Heifetz,Elman etc.

Interesting to hear this in original form. Used to LPs and CDs. To me, as a violinist, Kreisler was the greatest. I have heard dozens from Joachim to Elman and no one matches his pure beauty and warmth of tone, rhythmic sense, and phrasing. His concerto and sonata recordings are as deeply satisfying as the short works. He recorded the Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and Mozart 4 twice each. He is my hero and was my goal before an injury stopped my playing.

2ndviolinist, Thank you for watching, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I am very uneducated musically so I can't explain why, yet I too find Kreisler's recording wonderful.
