On the 4th of July at the US National Rainbow Gathering, we celebrate Interdependance Day. A silence is observed from sunrise until approximately noon, when a parade is led from Kiddie Village to the center of the peace circle. We hold hands and chant OM, being mindful of the state of the world and praying for world peace. As the energy builds and reaches the climax, a shout goes out across the meadow and the party begins.

In 2009, during the OM, a downpour started. The crowd stayed through the rain, remembering that "you can't have a rainbow without the rain." This time we proved ourselves right. As the OM ended, so did the rain. The party began. And shortly thereafter, as a sign that everyone there will remember, a rainbow appeared in the sky. Faint at first, it soon brightened. And then doubled. An extremely rare rainbow known as an Alexander's Band appeared, technicolor bright.
