Hello. My name is Sipho and I come from Ekangala in the province of Gauteng (roughly a two-hour drive from Johannesburg). Ekangala is a slum with around 30,000 residents. My mother died when I was ten years old and my father had left many years earlier. I live in a small house with my two older and two younger sisters, and we must do everything ourselves. We cook, we clean, provide food and do everything around the house. I miss my mother terribly; she could handle everything, and could find a solution to every problem. If there was no food, she would find something for us, and we always had clean clothes.
Despite everything, it remained my dream to be a film star a dream that has come true thanks to KidsRights. When I was 14, I had the chance to write and create a film myself, and my friends and I played the lead roles. Because I have never given up, I can now tell the whole world about the effects aids has on children and about what we can do to stop the disease and help orphaned children build a better future. In the meantime I have been admitted to the film academy in Johannesburg, so youll be hearing much more from me in the future!
