These "folk poets" of sorts, known as "kavishar," present a genre known as Kavishri. Alleged to have originated in the Malwa region of East Punjab, kavishri is an intoned poetic form (not really "music" per se) that has customarily been enjoyed as entertainment at such events as weddings and fairs. The present group, of Hardeep Singh and Party, is reciting a piece that comments ironically on Punjabi lifestyles. Performance occurred in Nov. 2004 in Patiala, Punjab.
