Wow...this must be rare. There doesn't seem to be much concert footage of Lou from this period. "Growing Up in Public" is sort of a forgotten Lou Reed album (it peaked on the charts at #158), but as the title and as this song show, it is one of his most personal. Thanks for posting.

WOW.. I remember taping the audio of this off the TV when I discovered it. It was from Don Kirshners Rock Concert. This set is KILLER!! The complete opposite of what the Dolls did on Kirshner....
Do you have the rest of the set? I would LOVE to get my hands on this but it just isnt available from what I can tell, on the usual torrent circles...

The Shock treatments took there toll on a young Lou Reed. Looks likes forgiveness is not in his books. He had a soft spot for his Mother (A former beauty Queen) As for his Father...different story...he got married the following year to Sylvia and Sydney and Tobey Reed where there at the ceremony. But Lou hardly looked at his father the whole way through the Ceremony.....

Lou is one of the few artists today who stayed true to his own style and doing things the way he wanted... aside from the whole david bowie trying to turn him to the glam rock scene.
