@BNSF650 I had it at Inola, OK, and just off the south end of Claremore. If I could've gone around claremore more efficiently than I did, I could've BEAT it to Coffeyville. Oklahoma and Kansas have 65 MPH speed limit, there were NO COPS out today. *knock on wood*

Yesterday I drove down by the mill to show gr. son the trains, and one was coming so we stood by the crossing and the train blew its horn as it was starting to go by and when the wind and sound wave hit us he was petrified. He loves trains but that was a bit much.

Well, you know the old mill site is full of crossings and switches, whether still in use or not is to be determined, but they still gotta honk all the same.
Best spots I park at in sterling are Behind the Dillon Home in the river entranceway, In the parking lot next to the old National Manufacturing (just before the turnout onto the IL 40 bridge), and at Nelson.

There was a guy there who was discussing about UP having so many people on hand, probably to ensure safe operation around the 844 by folks who otherwise might not think about it. I was telling him about seeing a guy in Chadwick climb up and over a refrigerator car (new style one) to go up to the Post office to mail something off.

I used google maps (for better or worse) to use this old farm road between Wagoner and Inola to catch it. Stopped for gas in Nowata and they said I was 2 Minutes behind. That was my "point of no return" before Kansas, but after seeing a roadsign 22 Miles to State Line, I figured what the hell. I'd already come 250 as it was!
