Freds life from 1946-1980. I apologize youtube was mad at my sampling of Kid Rock Cowboy and they disabled the audio. So some content is missing.

  • Thanks Jerry, I really miss him more so this time of year.

  • I'll always miss Fred Trost's Michigan Outdoors on PBS channel 23 8:00 pm on Thursday nights. I always gotta kick when Fred would pick on Bob Garner during the recipes section of the show. And, who can forget about Big Buck Night. Fantastic memories. Your Father touched so many lives in a positive way.

  • Thanks so much for the nice comments. I agree with you and more.

  • Did your dad ever work with Dick Black?

  • I am not sure if he worked with Dick or not. I know they knew each other. Dick worked for Mort Neff on the Original Michigan Outdoors as did my father.

  • you should post a video of the Intro to Michigan Outdoors...I can't find it on here and I love that song!

  • I will see if I can dig it up, I think I may have it on an old VHS copy.

  • You dishonor your Father and all he tried to do in this world for the outdoors.

Another worthless child trying to live off his Father's coattails, get out and do your own work and let people enjoy what your Dad left behind.

  • i am so sorry...living in california took me out of the michigan outdoors loop....fred was awesome!! he was better than mort and had a better personality than bob garner. i shook his hand 3 times and misshim on my tv....tinks sucks!!!

  • Hi Zach - my dad loved watching your dad - he supports the philosophy that Mort and your dad shared about the outdoors. There are those in the state that sanitize it and I'm glad your dad kept it real. My father and I had practically nothing we were so poor - watching your dad on PBS was something we looked forward to every week during tough times.

He has never been forgotten! Thank you!

    Regards,

    Jerry Garland

  • I agree with Biggkev8 about the intro. I loved that song.....every thursday night I would hear that from the other room and I knew it was Michigan out of doors time. I lost my dad a few years ago at 51 years old and the song reminds me of the old days I miss. I hope someone can post it on youtube!

  • hi zachary, we lost our dad a couple of years ago and my heart goes out to you and yours. if it hadn't been for my dad and mom, none of the walsh kids would have ever known about fred trost. i just watched this video for the first time and thought it was really cool. your dad was a true pioneer. i miss him and the shows he was involved with. i can picture our dad's in heaven, spilling a pot of chili or missing a rooster with the side by side. anyways, thanks, tom

  • Worked on the show as studio camera operator, associate director and a few as studio director and just wanted to say it was the most fun I had working on any show at wkar-tv . and YOU KNOW FRED WAS ONE OF A KIND.. You be lucky to run into a Talent like his in a lifetime. I really the guy. The world was just more intereting when he was around.

  • @jlahuis Yeah it was actually the Kikker Band from Lansing. I've been looking for the theme song too!

  • I've been looking all over for that too. I'll second jlahuis's request. If you haveit, please post it!

  • Does anyone have the Michigan Outdoors theme? The one "From the rugged shores and woodlands of the north's history to the copper mines and iron ores..." I always loved that song! I think it was by the kickers (from lansing). If anyone has this, can they post it?
