This is what a typical day is like at the Duluth/Superior Harbor entrance channel! Usually every ship while sailing under the harbor lift bridge will give a Salute to the Bridge Tender with a long loud blast on their foghorn! Then the bridge tender will reply with several loud short blasts on his horn as a reply! This is more or less respect from the old days of shipping! The ships & bridge tenders use to comunicate with blasts on their horns! Basically all comunications are done over two way radios! But they keep this nostalgic signature alive to this day of the past!

  • the 'great' Lake Superior...with all her fickle ways and commerce there is always a need for weather updates because storms appear out of nowhere...caught in a few

nice footage and ditto on the antennas on them ships under the bridges:)

  • @DAWL01 You are not kidding about the weather on the Superior! Most of the boats were standing down in all of the ports for several days prior to me capturing this footage!

  • I sailed on that boat when it was the MV. George A stinson as a Deckhand 97-02 great boat to be on.

  • @flyingjay49 That must have been something to sail on a vessel such as this! I'm hoping to some day take a week or two trip on a Great Lakes Freighter! That's something that I've always wanted to do!

  • A video that you want to see again and again ..........

    Greetings from Hamburg :-)

  • @BuDaMaN88 105' beam? WOW! That's huge!

How long did you sail on her? Do you still sail on the boats?

I'm hoping that some day that I'd get to sail on the Arthur M. Anderson for a few weeks before her time comes to a close! Do you know if they still have the vacation getaway for the general public on any of these vessels anymore?

That's something that I've always wanted to do! You Mariners are realy a great bunch of people! I never tire of your stories that you all have to tell!

  • @BuDaMaN88 beam*

  • @IntoWisOutdoors yea shes a 1,004 ft in length and 105 ft at the beem...i sailed on that ship

  • @mikesrailfanrailroad They sure are! The 1st one is 1,004 feet in length!

I've provided a few links to various sites in the video description box.

There is so much to see with all of the info of these vessels that frequent the harbor etc.!
