This is a very quick video on how to use the data transfer utility feature. This feature allows you to copy/transfer everything from one PS3 to another - That includes downloaded titles, DLC, all your media and game saves (even protected files).

I tried cramming all the information into 10 steps;

* Source PS3 = Where you're transferring from.
* Destination PS3 = Where you're transferring to.

1. Update both systems to 3.15 or up.
2. Hook both systems to your TV.
3. Deactivate the source PS3.
4. Activate the destination PS3.
5. Turn off systems. Link both systems with Ethernet cable.
6. Turn both systems back on.
7. Go to Data Transfer Utility, proceed and select option 1.
8. Switch TV source to destination PS3.
9. Repeat step 7, except choose option 2.
10. Let the destination PS3 format.

Personal result;

In my case, I was still able to access my old PS3. Apparently, after using this feature, the source PS3 is supposed to be formatted automatically so that there isn't any potential game sharing going on (I think). I could still use my source PS3, strangely. However, I did do a full system restore anyway.

  • Will doing this also transfer trophies?

  • @BassAdams6661 Trophies are stored online, not on your hard drive.

  • @Dutchley how can it be stored online when you dont even need to be online to earn trophies

  • @jamesmcgillivary1 Because when the game itself unlocks a trophy, it's simply not stored anywhere on the hard drive as a physical piece of data.

  • will this transfer data such as mw3 multiplayer stats?

  • @XLian09X I don't know this 100% but I believe anything multiplayer related should be stored online, not as data on the system itself.

  • @dutchley Thanks for this video. I was able to transfer all the data from my old PS3 to my new one without any problems. All my trophies came up too. Thanks once again

  • @LilRooper16 Are you seriously asking if you can transfer PS3 data to an Xbox360 this way!? You do realize that the PS3 and Xbox360 are not made by the same company as well they are TOTALLY different platforms. They are in no way compatible so no, the answer is no you CAN'T transfer PS3 data to a Gaybox360.

  • how do you know if its a crossover ethernet cable?

  • I did copy to u. but I lost missed game saved since I played game. it over started again but i don't want play over started again, Because my new ps3 have lost saved game. any help to me? what wrong with new ps3?

  • @jamesmcgillivary1 they are stored online go on another ps3 and log on to your psn and look on your trophies

  • @Dutchley I think it will have to save them somewhere if the person never went online? But to answer his question, yes it would transfer your trophies I would assume.

  • I believe you also have to sign in to your PSN account on BOTH systems, then initiate the transfer and one will log out automatically. I kept getting "no ethernet connected" message before I did that.

  • how can i tell if my ethernet cable is a crossover one or not? I just use it for standard internet connection stuff :/

  • Does this have to be done per user on the source ps3?

  • @shayyuo TRY UPDATING BOTH OF YOUR PS3'S TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE BY GOING TO SYSTEM UPDATE IN THE MAIN MENU
