Edward J. Vassallo, Ready Coordinator for Philadelphia's Office of Emergency Management, describes the warning signs of heat stroke.

Heat Stoke occurs when the body is not able to cool down. It is extremely serious and can result in death or long term disability. It causes:

- Very high body temperature (above 103F)
- Red, hot, and dry skin with no sweating
- Rapid heartbeat
- Throbbing headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Confusion
- Unconsciousness

People experiencing these symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.

For more information on staying safe this summer, download the Stay Cool Guide or visit the Extreme Heat page of the website, www.phila.gov/ready.

  • @mackenzie236 Heat stroke occurs when the body is unable to regulate its temperature. If the body's temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails and the body is unable to cool down. Body temperature may rise to 106 degrees F or higher within 10-15 minutes, which can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not provided. Hopefully, this answers you question. You may want to consult your doctor for more information.

  • i have a question wat if its in the winter time in florida and at night you feel hot, sometimes dizzy and your heart burns is that considered as a heatstroke?
