Freedom were a pop duo from Ireland and had a hit in 1990 with this track. This was their second single and very different to their release, 'Obsession'. 'Like It Was' has the feel of early SAW tracks, Jackie Graham & Wham.
With strong influences of soul and disco, Freedom trail-blazed the path for acts such as Boyzone and later on, Westlife. Much more sophisticated and intelligent than the later wave of Irish pop, in hindsight, Freedom seemed ahead of their time. Hindered by an over cautious record company, they never managed to fulfil their full potential, despite an initial wave of interest by both the UK and Irish music press. At the time, Irish music was dominated by rock bands and pop music was a hard sell. However their legacy is long lasting with artists such as Ronan Keating of Boyzone citing them as major influences.
Freedom were Andy Jack and Mark Dean: both of whom still live in Dublin and continue to be involved in music today.
