Inter-weaving shingles is also a good idea which most contractors carry out these days. Thanks Tim!

Almost never fails. I watch one of your videos and learn something new. The 'treated' valley metal looks great on that composition shingle roof. The height of tile usually hides the valley flashing and makes the aesthetics a non-issue.

thats a good idead...you could also do what i call the weave method where you just inter weave shingle on each side..counldnt you?

I see what you mean, my house doesn't have these type of corners were metal flashing runs into another piece of metal flashing. That's why I was confused about what you solder the flashing too.
Anyway I better throw the shingles on fast before I start seeing mold under my sub floor

a true roofer knows how to do valleys
Hi Tim, I have read your article about
New Home Construction Cost Breakdown.
In which you said
All roof flashings must be tin or copper and be soldered! 95 percent of all roof leaks happen at flashings. Make sure yours are the best and installed properly.
I can't find any contractor in this area that will put in a copper roof flashing, they do metal flashing and use an ice and water shield to prevent leaks. What would you solder the copper too? Why is metal flashing not enough?
thx Nik

I think you missed the point. Flashings from metal should be the type that can be soldered. Tin and copper are the easiest to work with. There are places, both inside and outside corners, where flashings need to be soldered. You commonly see these at the lower corners of dormers and the corners of skylights. There are many other places, but you get the point. The metal is soldered to each other as the flashings overlap. Look at old churches and government buildings. Those flashings last.

good idea for covering ugly metal valleys i am a master eleite gaf contractor and have owened a roofing buss since 1986 and have never heard of such a thing dont see why it would be a problem. you should also recomend to have pepole choose a close cut valley when there roof is replaced as per manufacture recomendations it looks great when done write.

That video was shot seven years ago and the granules are still on the metal. I thought many might wear off by then. I do agree that the close-cut method works too.
