@MusicyLife The free diver blacked out at 17meters, From what i saw in this clip she sounded like she was on her way up which means she had gone below 17meters in depth! Her Black out would probably have been caused by going too deep for too long and not having enough oxygen to reach the surface. Black outs dont just happen to new divers, even the pro's have them, which is why you always have someone watching you when you free dive. hope that helps explain it ;)

@AANate007 I hear that. This is one way of pushing things too far. No sympathy for anyone who ends up in a bad way after doing this shit. Each to their own.

dont take this as an asshole comment but what is the point of free diving? is it pushing your body to the limit? I can relate to that as a runner, ive just been wondering! thanks!

@MusicyLife to put it simply: when you go deeper, the oxygen pressure increases, so you could say you need less of it.
On the bottom you consume part of it, but are still ok due to the higher pressure. Once you go back up, the pressure drops again and it is possible that the oxygen in your body isn't enough anymore at the pressure you're at, hence the blackout.

please i hope somebody answear to me ... i am not professional free diving but only a sportive waterpolo player and i want to know why this happened ... i always go to this deep like 17 metres but i never had a problem ... how it's possible that a professional freediver got blackout ?
They were not trying to perform CPR. She blacked out underwater due to a lack of oxygen to her brain. Her brain sought oxygen and as a result involuntarily opened her mouth, causing water to evade her lungs and causing them to spasm, preventing any more water entering (and later, air). Therefore they needed to simulate the nerve endings to indicate to the brain that she was no longer in underwater. To do this they blew on her face, causing the brain to release the lung constriction = breathing

@jonathanpcampbell Blowing air in the victims face can cause them to begin breathing again on their own. Not always but it can help.
