Kia Spectra
2008-09 models mfg. after Aug. 2007
SIDE IMPACT TEST WITH STANDARD SIDE AIRBAGS

OVERALL EVALUATION: Marginal
Injury measures Head protection Structure/safety cage
Head/neck Torso Pelvis/leg
Driver Good Poor Acceptable Good Marginal
Rear passenger Good Good Acceptable Good

Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories.
Test details:

The Kia Spectra was redesigned during the 2004 model year. (The old design was produced through November 2003; these cars are also designated as 2004 models.) All 2004 and later Spectra models manufactured after November 2003 are the redesigned cars.

Kia has made structural and side torso airbag modifications beginning with 2008 models manufactured after August 2007 (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door). The tested car was manufactured after the modifications had been made.
Injury measures:

Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be likely in a crash of this severity. A fracture of the pelvis would also be possible.

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate that a left femur fracture would be possible in a crash of this severity. The risk of significant injuries to other body regions is low.
Head protection:

Driver — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

Rear passenger — The dummy's head was protected from being hit by any hard structures, including the intruding barrier, by a side curtain airbag that deployed from the roof.

  • the 2004-2009 Kia Cerato was assembled in

    China: Jiangsu

    South Korea: Hwasung

  • dam!!! i have one :'(

  • @USFCARTWRIGHT You don't have a KIA so you don't know about its cars

  • no here is how it goes

    Maxima - Full Size

    Altime - Mid Size

    Sentra - Compact

    Versa - SubCompact

  • Well since u think 2007-Current sentra is COMPACT.. YOU take that up with Nissan Motors NORTH AMERICA.. Because every new sentra ive seen has "Midsize" on the sticker..

    Thank You very much!!

  • actually the iihs side test is more stringent than the nhtsa side test. the iihs test rates dummy kinematics in the side test, nhtsa does not. the iihs barrier is larger and heavier. the iihs barrier replicates an suv hitting you in the side, the nhtsa barrier replicates a sedan. if a car doesn't have side head protection, you can pass a nhtsa side test, in an iihs side test, the barrier will hit the dummies' heads at 31 mph, so you must have side head protection to pass the iihs side test.

  • AGREED, Christopher2398!!

  • bib whoopdey do even if it got a good rating like the yaris if you were hit in the side by an 18-wheeler you would get killed probably.

  • people!! dont give a shit about what the insurance istitue says i looked up the 09 spectra on the governments crash test site and it got 4 stars for side impact protection. so screw the insurance istitue!!

  • no its not the altima is midsize the sentra is still compact
