As Singapore is going through an aging population mainly due to low birth rate and a relatively good welfare system for the elderly, hence by 2030 (if there is no drastic changes to birth rate) elderly age 65 and above would make up 19% of the population with most of them might not have any children to support them after they cease to have regular income. While some would be sent to nursing homes or old folks home as their children were not able to provide the constant care for them. However, recently reported in the news, an elderly was mistreated by her caretakers in a nursing home — so are elderly in Singapore well taken care of?
This brought us, Youth.SG to the streets of Woodlands to find out the opinions of youths on this issue.
