the greatest unknown song of the 60's, at least as far as free love and the top 40 goes, plus it has a groovy, slinky, somewhat sinister bass line and back beat that give it a real edge. put that together with the most sublime vocal performance ever by la crosby, and it doesn't get any better than this. besides, who wouldn't want to write a song that could get you make kicked out of the byrds. alex chilton occurs courtesy of pure chance in this vid, it was an abortive attempt to illustrate the line "sister lovers". chris bell , andy hummel and jody stephens also appear. you big star fans will get the obscure reference. hope you all will enjoy it.

  • He just always impressed me as a disingenuous person, a narcissist. Heard a lot of singers/songwriters that were just as good, if not better.

  • @theladywriter he is definitely a reprobate (and he probably wouldn't contradict that term) , but crosby at his best is sublime .

  • did Grace Slick do something with this?

  • yes, she sang a version on "crown of creation" 1968

  • Thanks for posting this! I love it so much more than the Grace Slick version.

  • the original byrds version, is the best. i have also done a harmony treatment of chestnut mare, if you care to check it out

  • I do think Grace Slick fits this song better, I do prefer the Jefferson Airplane version over this, but this is nice

  • @theladywriter So what he is a fucking genius and not sure who would be better.

  • David Crosby was at my gig last Friday night (28/10/11) at the Hard Day's Night Hotel in Liverpool. How cool is that people?

He and his partner came across as a nice couple. Told me he didn't regret a single thing he ever did. Good luck to him.

  • Love all the versions of this song but Jefferson Airplane has it for me I think.

  • @ashoftomorrow sounds good but knowing what we know of Crosby it was probably all about having sex with two women at the same time...let's not kid ourselves...

  • Greatest Underrated Rock Songs

  • happy 70 years, David!

  • beeyouutilllfullll onion child

  • Crosby..yes there are tons of songwriters..Newman, Nilsson, Taylor, King, Wilson all with their own sound........but only Crosby wrote Page 43 and Carry Me. Two of the finest songs ever created

  • @MasterKief69 no this song is about a triad. threesome= sex. triad=love.
