Fandom calls Ashley weak but I say she is in transformation. She knows her desires, her dreams, but she doesn't know how to get there or what they really mean; she ends up letting the external world tell her. She never had autonomy as a servant after all. Emma tells her she has to take it and not with tricks, the way the magic users and the princes told her to, Emma tells her to take control of her life by taking control of her life. By just standing up and saying I'm worth more than happy ever after. And that's one of the hardest things to do so give her some time, and let her make some mistakes. People take years to grow up, not one hour of television. Ashley's not weak. She's in between.
