December 11, 2009 - Democratic Senators Chris Dodd, Tom Harkin, Robert Casey, Paul Kirk and other long term care advocates held a press conference on Capitol Hill today to discuss the compelling need to include long term care provisions in the health care reform bill. Providing home health and home care services for all Americans would help millions of families and significantly reduce costs. The CLASS Act (short for Community Living Assistance Services and Support) would also allow elderly and disabled persons to live out their lives with dignity--all points SEIU member and Virginia personal care assistant Athena Jones drove home in her testimony at today's press conference.
Athena's argument was so convincing, Senator Chris Dodd said afterward that he wanted her on the Senate floor--and if he could have a "designated hitter," Athena would be it.
