LONG DESCRIPTION AHEAD! READ IF YOU'VE NEVER PLAYED MOTHER 3 BEFORE!!!
Alright, with the US release of Brawl coming soon, I thought why not get to know some of the games roots? One of the games contributing majorly to Brawl, is Mother 3. Unfortunatly, Nintendo has no plans on releasing this game in North America, and the fan translation is only so far along. That's where I come in; I'll be playing the game, so that you can pick up on characters, abilities, locals, and music that'll be in Brawl.
Yes, I'm starting at Chapter 4...why? Because the first 3 chapters are pretty much the same story, told through 3 different perspectives. To save time, I'll simply summarize what happens in the chapters (You can probably find videos by others online anyway...)
Chapter 1: Flint (Lucas' father) awaits for the arival of Hinawa (his wife) Lucas, and Claus (Lucas' older brother) after their vacation at their grandparents house. Trouble starts, when he Pig Army (a mysterious force bent on conquring the world...descretly) sets fire to the village of Tazmily's forest. Rain eventually puts out the fire... but Hinawa and the boys still haven't arrived after the ordeal. Issac (a villager) claims he heard a scream from the mountains, and asks if Hinawa has returned yet. A search party is instantly created. With the help of Duster (residential theif, and a key character) Lucas and Claus are found, but Hinawa is nowhere to be found. She is found, but has a Drago fang through her heart. Flint loses it, and begins attacking the villagers who helped out in the serach. Flint is knocked out, and thrown in Jail. He awakes the next day, and sets out to find Claus, who went to go slay the Drago. Flint meets the Magypsies (you'll find out about them later on) and eventually defeats the Drago. Flint, however, cannot find Claus, who was defeated and knocked down a cliff.
Chapter 2: As Flint left the jail, he ran into Duster, who offered his condolences, and went on his way. That night, Duster was given the by Wes (his father) to go and steal a treasure from Ohsoh Castle. first time through, Flints spots a mysterious girl, and returns to Wes with the incorrect treasure. Second time into the castle, Wes decides to tag along to help out Duster. The castle, however, is now over-run with the Pig Army, who are also after the treasure. Near the end of the journey through the castle, Wes and Duster run into the mysterious girl Duster had spotted before. The girl, Kumatora, joins up with you, and the three head to the highest point of the castle. The treasure turns out to by a mysterious egg. Kumatora grabs it, activating a trap which drops the group into a watery pit. After a battle with a serpent, the group is flushed out of the pool. Wes and Kumatora awake on the riverbed near Wes' house, but Duster and the egg are missing.
Chapter 3: This particular chapter isn't very significant, so I'll be brief: a monkey named Salsa is kidnapped by the Pig Army, and is being held captive by a man named Yokuba. Salsa's girlfriend is being held captive, and he must co-operate with Yokuba in order to free her. Yokuba and Salsa head into Tazmily, in order to give out "Happiness Boxes" which is the Pig Army's way of secretly corrupting society. Eventually, you'll be sent to the castle to persue Duster, Wes, and Kumatora, and eventually flush them out of the serpent's pool. You'll run into Wes and Kumatora in town, and they'll rescue Salsa at night. The Pig Army, however, persues you. The party becomes cornered in the forest, but are saved when Lucas appears and uses the now friendly agian Dragos to scare off the army.
We are now brought to where this video begins. It's now 3 years since the occurances of those 2 days. The rural village of Tazmily is now a modernized city, being controlled by the Pig Army. Those without the Pig Army's "Happiness Boxes" have their homes constantly struck by lightning. Lucas' family is one of those households. Wes' home has been converted into a retirement home, as well as currency now comes into play; nothing is free anymore.
Chapter 4 starts out with Lucas heading over to the train station with his dog, Boney. The two men basically say that they've herad that a man who looks suspiciously like Duster has been spotted playing at Club Titiboo. Lucas goes to tell Wes, who we see apprehended by the Pig Army. Wes has been marked as a danger to the army's intentions, and therefore wouldn't be able to go and check if that was Duster who was preforming. Lucas is asked to go, and send Wes a pidegeon if it turns out to be Duster. Club Titiboo is located down the train tracks, so Lucas begins heading down that way.
At the end of the video, Lucas meets a Magypsie, who teaches him how to use PSI.
Wow, this is WAY off sync... No matter, still good vid. Can't wait for the translation. Just a few more percent numbers to go.

Yeah, I had a bad emulator here...
Anyway, there's more then a few more percents to go. Mato still has to finish the second draft, then a 3rd draft needs to be done. This, however, is fielded by a large group for more opinion, and will take longer. Then beta testing begins, then the debugging, and finally, a release.
So I believe it'll probably be a good few months or so...maybe in time for the holidays?

Isn't it sad that EarthBound was taking out of the Masterpieces mode in the English version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl all we can hope that it comes out for the Virtual Console.

Yeah...I could understand some of the others like Fire Emblem...but I'm finding it hard to find reasons as to why Earthbound was taken out other then NOA hates it.
I mean, all it is is a ROM, right?
