The Yardbirds-Boom Boom Club, Sutton, Surrey. U.K. 8th July 2007,on the occasion of the 5th anniversary show of the club.
The Yardbirds are still as fresh and vibrant as they were in the 60's when they were trailblazing the British Invasion of the States. They still feature founder members Jim McCarty and Chris Dreja (the original guitarist with the fledgling Led Zeppelin) and now boast a new guitar star in 23 year old Ben King.together with harp ace Billy Boy Miskimmin, and American bass man and vocalist "Detroit" John Idan (now in the band for over 20 years), The Yardbirds will continue to play just as long as they are relevant. And on the evidence of this sell out show, their audience refuses to let them go !

Such is the pressure of contemporary touring that The Yardbirds had to switch the venue for this special 5th anniversary date. They had played the famous Gastro Blues Festival in Hungary little over 24 hours before and had problems getting back to London in time. So plans were quickly changed and the gig was moved from Zoom@ The Moon, London SE24 to the Boom Boom Club 5th anniversary show in Sutton, which sold out very quickly.
The Boom Boom Club is run at Sutton Utd FC in Surrey (greater London) and was established on the back of the popular Worcester Park Club. That club lasted seven and half years, and presented all manner of international tour bands, and a mix of enduring Rock, Blues, R&B and premier tribute bands.

Since opening its doors The Boom Boom Club has played host to the likes of The Zombies, Lesley West's Mountain, Kevin Ayers, Walter Trout & The Radicals, Jan Akkerman, Omar & The Howlers, Ruthless Blues, Pat Travers, Stoney Curtis, Climax Blues band, The Hamsters, The SAS Band, Paul Lamb & The Kingsnakes, Joe Bonamassa, Man, Focus, The Pirates, Poppa Chubby, Space Ritual, Mike Berry & The Outlaws, Ian Parker, Aynsley Lister, Steve Fister, The Searchers, Carvin Jones, Ana Popovitch, Otis Grand, Albert Lee & Hogans Heroes, Jeff Scott Soto, Dr.Feelgood, Roadhouse, Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash, Blues Shouter, Sherman Robertson, and hugely popular outfits like The Mods, Four Bills & A Ben, The Rollin Stoned, The Muffin Men, the Bohemians, Viva Santana and the ELO Experience to name but a few. The full list is on the bands list www.feenstra.co.uk

The Yardbirds were the perfect band for the 5th anniversary night, bringing with them a sense of history, great rock blues and a new guitar star in Ben King, who is also featured on the videos section of the website

  • @lyndloo Amen to that! It's such a shame how Keith died. It totally sux. I suppose everything happens for a reason, but I really wish The Yardbirds had gone on and gotten the recognition that we all know they deserved!

I absolutely love Led Zeppelin, but I wish Page could've done a couple more years with Relf and the Yardbirds before the Zeppelin launched!
