As a proud Republican josbo51713 I am a strong advocate for states rights. I believe it should be a states right to choose whether or not same-sex marriage should be legal, but as a Catholic I believe that marriage is a ceremony joining man and women together to procreate if they so choose and start a family. I'm not homophobic or anything, I just believe that the word marriage means a holy matrimony between man and women.

It's only the Christians who are making a big deal about gay marriage and screaming that America was founded on Christian principles. This isn't true. And what about religions that chose to recognize gay marriage? Americans will not respect those religions because Christians overall do not respect other religions. And if there was true freedom of religion, there should also be freedom FROM religion. Religion should not be used to deny civil rights.

Also why is it josbo51713 that when ever someone who is American mentions the word religion it automatically means Christianity? In this country we have freedom of religion something that many other nations do not have. We have many good American citizens of all races, creeds, and religions.

At the time this nation was founded it was true that church attendance was very low. Not to mention a lot of the founding fathers were not religious people. As for slavery though I believe it is wrong you look back in history and you'll find that slavery was a way of life, an unfortunate way of life, but thank God we have seen through the cruelty of such an institution.

"America is a very religious nation?" Since when? America was founded on slavery, murdering Indians and stealing their land. Moreover, America was once outraged over interracial marriages. Should America's outrage been enough to deny interracial couples from marrying? And who gives a fuck about what Christians think or what they consider natural. Plastic isn't natural, cars aren't natural, computers aren't natural. Are Christians going to ban those items too? Of course not. Hypocritsy!

I think Civil Unions are fair. Religion is a very personal part of a person's life and America is a very religious nation and allowing for gay marriage would be seen as "unnatural" and cause an outrage in the religious community.
