@powerpoint952 July '89 and the start of series 18, to be precise, when the greeny set (and, if I'm right in thinking, the second version of the theme music) came in. ;)
Viewers got a glimpse of it only a few weeks after this game aired, though, in a trailer for the about-to-be-launched Channel 4 Daily (featuring Countdown Masters, of course), with Richard and Carol sitting at the contestants' desks. You can see this trailer on YouTube if you haven't already done so. ;)

@steviegTVreturns That's right! Later on in 1989, this set was scrapped in favour of the "greenier-looking" set. It only lasted until 1990, when they changed the top of the set from green to pink - this lasted until the middle of 1991 (or thereabouts) where it changed to the wings set.

@DANWOODHOUSE By the looks of things they'd already been through several hostesses already so they probably couldn't remember Lucy's name as they had little idea who she was! Don't forget at least everyone has got to know who the others are over some time- Carol Vorderman being around since the start in some role or other.

I'm sure I should remember this far back by now (3 at the time, but...) and I still can't remember there being another woman other than Carol Vorderman. LUcy Summer escapes my mind. Then, I WAS 3...

Lawrence "Wankers" Pearse.....
This must have been the final series to use this set before the greenier looking one came in, even for 1989 this looks dated.

Its nice for me to be the first person to see this video on youtube
and its just what i had been waiting for, Countdown with Lucy Summers - I notice that the contestants still havent got the hang of asking for "consonant please LUCY", (its is curtasy to remember someones name!)
and what about at 10:48 Ned Sherrin calling Georgia Hole "Miss Whiplash!" - i wonder what they had been upto before the show!
