The 1240 was out of comission for one train today, and the 402 was the back up engine, so it pulled the first train of the day.

402 is a very important locomotive in railroad history, because it was the first locomotive built by EMD, it was built in 1938 and it was one of the first diesel locomotives in Class I service. This SW1 is 70 years old and still going strong.

  • its also important because it used to run right in front of my house on the old SN mainline, under the current day BART tracks. I'd rather see the SN than BART.
