the most over the top, theatrical pageant that you will ever see at florida state University. People through the roof, performances out the a$$, so many different organizations under one roof.

check out the press release:

The Haitian Culture Club (HCC) of Tallahassee hosted their annual Mr. and Mrs. HCC pageant at the Moore Auditorium on the Florida State University campus Friday, Nov. 9.

The theme for this year's event was "Black Sparta: Heir to the Throne."

"Black Sparta is a concept which compares the Battle of Thermopylae 480 BC, depicted in the movie 300, with the Battle of Vertières November 18, 1803, the deciding battle of the Haitian Revolution," said Ecclesiast Guerrier, HCC Master Coordinator along with Lawrence Gonzalez. "The slaves on the island of Hispaniola faced the mighty French Empire of Napoleon. Outnumbered, they fought. Not for glory, not for Haiti, but for all of Africa."

Jude Pierre was crowned Mr. HCC and Sabrina Omega was crowned Mrs. HCC. Natasha Leon, Alain Justilien, Dayana Bernavil, Natalie Joseph, Mike Germain, Wilnick Gedeon, and Marie Edouard also competed in the pageant.

The contestants gave speeches on why they should be Mr. HCC or Mrs. HCC, participated in a question and answer portion of the show and dressed in clothing representing the theme of "Black Sparta." Each of them had their own unique way of coming onto the stage.

"Students from FSU, FAMU, and TCC pay homage to our ancestors and let the world know: 'We did not surrender, we did not retreat,'" said Guerrier. "'We, are Black Sparta!' And Haitian history is black history."

The pageant also featured performances by the African Student Association, Eclipse Dance Troupe and the Haitian Culture Club Dance Troupe. A satirical video made about recording artist Usher coming to terms with Haitian heritage was also shown at the event.

The HCC of Tallahassee was founded in 1988 by FAMU student Louis Marcelus with the goal of uniting of Haitians living in Tallahassee.

  • haiti history is Black history, but i know alot of African Americans that do not like Haitians nor Africans

  • at a time, frederick douglas was the first embassardor to haiti, nat turner saw himself as an incarnation of Toussaint, The Haitian/freed slaves help America secure the lousianna purchase, so much history, we're only divided cuz we don't know.

WEB dubois, a haitian guy founded NAACP, Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable founded Chicago whereas no other freed slaves had.

they fought on that remote island, they didn't fight for haitians cuz that term never existed. They fought for Blacks! all of them.
