To be fair, you can have a lot of fun (if you can afford it) and a lot of people have earned much tax-free money working there. Just keep your nose clean, as they saying goes.

Also, he didn’t say anything about the role of Islam there which is impossible to miss with strict dress and behavior codes, not to mention calls to prayer blaring over loudspeakers everywhere. A lot of westerners see all the imported brands and consumerism and forget that they are in an Islamic country where, technically, a tourist is breaking the law by drinking in a bar without a liquor licence. Did hemeet any locals? They arecourteous, but don’t ever cross one as you can’t win on their turf.

Emir seems like cool guy, but I don’t think his experiences would be the same as what a non-Arabic speaking person would have. Being an Arab himself, ethnically, he already has a deep understanding of the culture. I would like to hear from a female student, especially a non-white non-Muslim one. I bet their experience would be different.

Yea ditto that, like I can't believe I watched the whole 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Usually I'll watch the beginning of an interview and then skip around. This guy is very interesting, I like his facial expressions. no homo that is lol
