I have the Carrera system and the quality is really good. You still should place a power-support every 8-10 m if you wanna have nice equal power everywhere. (i just used ordinary speaker-wire to connect the remote parts of the track to the power source and it worked alright)
btw 1:39 looks extremly cool ;)

@jonx1313 I am using three additional power cables, distributed evenly around the track. W/o it, the lane changes on the far ends won't switch reliably...

I had Scalextric Digital and it was garbage. If I ran more than 3 cars with 2 power packs, the power track would smoke. Not enough power to run the track length. Scalextric track sucks anyways because it has terrible connections. Does this system have any flaws. I sold my garbage, but need to know whats better, SCX or Carrera
