Hedda Gabler is actually named Hedda Tesman. Of this Ibsen wrote: "My intention in giving it this name was to indicate that Hedda as a personality is to be regarded rather as her father's daughter than her husband's wife."

this version complete in seven parts (some cuts, Brack's part trimmed the most)

"Hedda Gabler" by Henrik Ibsen

Ingrid Bergman wrote (in her autobiography 'My Story') "I'd always been intrigued by the role of Hedda. Such an interesting part, and Hedda is such a strange woman. The play is a classic, and I wanted to thy a classic for a change. And I liked TV even though at this time I was rationing myself to one TV performance a year.

Eric Shorter in the "Daily Telegraph" summarized: "Well, if old Ibsen must be bolted throught in 75 minutes flat, who better to do it than Ingrid Bergman, Ralph Richardson, Michael Redgrave and Trevor Howard..."

  • The cast is excellent though we have to suspend our disbelief that these people ren't in their early 40s, rather than in their 20s -- 30s.

  • Ingrid Bergman...imo, a beautiful woman, but after watching many of her work I still don't think she was really superb in acting ;)

  • Thea is HOTT

  • Michael Redgrave, Ralph Richardson, and Trevor Howard were three of the greatest actors of the British stage and film industry. And Ingrid Bergman was one of the greatest actresses of film in the entire world. This production was made for television in 1963. Don't expect technical perfection in the filming. Do expect some of the finest acting you will ever see.

  • Why don't you try reading the actual play, Ibsen is a brilliant writer...don't be so lazy.

  • can anybody tell me is this accurate to the actual text

  • i love this play so much!

THIS IS THE SCENE I ACTED!

    I WAS BERT, THE MAID

  • Oh my gaaawd!! Henrik Ibsen rock!
