  • The next three days after this surgery are extremely painful

  • After the bone heals, do they take the metal plate out?

  • I had mine removed also. For me it offered no relief, I suffered nerve damage from the severity of the trauma. But I would still remove them. It's always better not

to have foreign objects if you can help it. the screws were wicked and they do bother

    if you wear high boots.

  • I fractured my fibula back in '99 and had this procedure done. A year later I had the plate and screws removed because it rubbed when i wore my work boots. My surgeon said it could have remained in if it hadn't bothered me. I would recommend having it removed after the bone heals.

  • @timoxomit Im in my fifth week, i got a splint at week 3, But i have the exact same break. My plate is gonna stay in.

  • i did my ankle...like 6 weeks ago i didnt get xray or anything i think it may have healed wrong .....fml

  • hey im now into my 13th week after the op. after the cast was removed, it took me just over a week to walk without the crutches, but i was limping for a week or so after, because my ankle/leg was still a bit sore/stiff. ive had physio once a week to reduce the swelling. lots of swimming, walking in water, now strengthening the leg in the gym. im walking totally normally now. will be running by new year...just under 4 months after the op. listen to your physio and you will be bak in no time!!

  • im almost fully recovered now, i can run flat out no pain ect but have trouble makeing quick turns which is a pain since i play rugby i had my opperation in APRIL and badly broke tib and fib. I had a none weight bearing cast on for 6 weeks followed by a half walking cast for a further 4 weeks, it took me many months of physio to walk without a limp or pain. (im only 15 after a week or so my friends didnt w8 up) ALSO EXPECT FRACTURE BLISTERS I STILL HAVE BIG SCARES THAT WILL BE THERE FOR YEARS!

  • Had my surgery exactly two weeks ago. They put a plate and 6 screws just like this video, but my on the diafisis of the bone, mine broke almost making two parts of same size. No pain after the surgery, just cant mantain my foot down. Next week i'll start to walk inside water, in a swimming pool on my neck level. Hope I can run in two months from now.

  • hi! we have the same situation.. broken fibia/ fibula and tibia.. just wondering how long does it take for u to walk without crutches? did u do physio? what did u do to heal fast?? how many months does it take for y to walk again?? im on my 11th week now, starting to use one crutch and scared. please reply... thank u!!

  • i am now into my 7th week, and walking/hobbling without crutches. it is of course sore at the moment but the physio has encouraged this to reduce swelling of the ankle/foot and regain mobility in the joint. i have also been encouraged to do exercises in the pool and swim as much as possible. onwards and upwards
