Filling a fountain pen- lever type-
You should leave it in the ink longer than I show- about 10 seconds. The pen is a 1950's Esterbrook J model.

  • I recognize that bottle. . . That's not ink, it's Skrip "writing fluid, the successor to ink".

I look favorably on the Esterbrook J. They're built like a tank. OK, make that a very small plastic tank, but you know what I mean.

  • Har- You got me there it's Skrip alright!

The Esterbrook is great too 'cause there are a lot of interchangeable nibs still out there- what a great idea-

  • I've seen some fountain pens on ebay running into the $1,000's. Do people who buy these things normally use them for everyday use or just to collect?

  • Hi-

There's different opinions- some folks won't ink an expensive pen 'cause they feel it reduces the value- others think that pens are MADE to be used and use them- that's more like I feel, but I don't have any $1000+ pens either!

  • i have one want me to make a video of it

  • Sure- love to see it.

  • I use a Sheaffer fountain pen with a refillable chamber. Just press the bladder a few times and there you go, inked for good. Also smears my hands because it sometimes leaks on the bladder.

  • I used to write with Parker Vectors in my childhood. The pen writes smoothly, its nib is sturdy, but on the flip side - the piston mechanism is not easy to operate (not to reflect on piston mechanisms in general) and the writing is THICK! That may be a turn-off for you!

  • I have a Cross ATX fountain pen, M nib. It has great ink flow, and writes very smooth with its steel nib, but it tends to help the ink "feather" a lot.

I'm not that big of a fan of the current Cross fountain pens. Personally, I think the best bang for your buck are Jinhao pens that are gold plated. You can find them on ebay for 18+ bucks.

  • hey.. chill chill chill.... i recieved and read ur reply the first time.... don't bomb the place... thanx fore the info... Parker Vector Stainless steel version for 8 bucks??? that is awesome... cus i don't know where to get it.. and you have the Cross A chrome too.. That is soo bloody AWESOME.. is there any way you could do a video review or video show off of both these pens... PLEASE AND THANKYOU..
