In this sprawling city it is important to choose your housing carefully, as where you live will really dictate your lifestyle. From old lane houses, new high rises, and apartment complexes in the city center to outer city stand-alone villas, Shanghai offers a variety of housing options. However, the most popular districts for expatriates are Puxi, on the west bank of the Huangpu River, and Pudong on the east bank. Most properties in Shanghai come furnished, varying in quality and appearance. However arrangements can be made to empty the property if you are planning to ship your own furniture.
