All the Pit Bull haters...........If you think its the breed that is naturally aggressive and has nothing to do with the owners, then I guess the Westie should be placed on the Dangerous Breed List also.

I mean, that is what you say, its the breed, get rid of the breed, it was bred to be vicious. OK. then how do you explain this????

  • The reason a westie is not on the dangerous breeds list is because firstly its extremely rare for a westie to behave like this, and secondly the damage a pitbull could do if it did bite would be considerably more fatal and catastrophic just because of the size and strength of a pitbulls jaw. Granted, any breed of dog can bite but a westie bite would not be as severe as a pitbulls. I've never heard of a single person or child dying as a result of a westie biting them.

Well, speaking from personal experience. My old roommate had one. And she was the biggest bitch EVER!

She nipped at a couple of people. She even attacked her own mom that was visiting for a few days. Not to mention, pissed all over my other roommates bed.....we still can't figure that one out.

But ya, she was a real bitch. lol!

  • So what exactly is your point? Of course ALL dogs have the potential to be aggressive & attack humans & of course a big part of any dogs' behaviour is the responsibility of the owner. My Westie has been attacked 4 times, some by non-specific, mongrel-type dogs.

Bu are you seriously telling me that Westies are even in the same, potentially-dangerous league as Pit Bulls, Akitas, Shar Peis, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Rottweillers, Dobermans and, in some cases, German Shepherds to name a few?

Nope.......saying Pits aren't the only ones that attack

  • Any breed of dog can bite, I was bitten by a poodle when I was a kid, my westie has been attacked by a Jack russell, a golden retriever, numerous cross breeds, and he has never bitten back, its not the breed of dog its the dogs own character. Just like human beings some are tricky some are not, just because they are the same breed does'nt mean they all have the same traits.

  • You should never hit a dog under any circumstances first it is cruel and secondly it will achieve nothing, it will only make the dog more aggressive, is this animal being teased and hit by children all the time because eventually it will snap as would a human being if it was constantly being goaded, as its extremely unusual for a westie to behave like this, I have a westie and he has never snapped at children or anybody and thats because I will not allow children to pull him around!

  • This is BS! Westie puppies chew and are difficult to train. They are also pack animals, the little sister will not be much higher in the pack than the westie. And OF COURSE, if you aren't breeding him snip him as a pup... Like all dogs, if you hit him and take away food he will not appreciate it.
