Sadh Sangat & Choosing Your Environment

How to maintain connection and purity in the company of those who partake in activities which are not aligned with your Consciousness? Should one totally avoid such environments....or can we really be like a lotus flower, living amongst the dirty waters (negative influences), but above them..? What about family occasions where there is an expectation and you don't want to let people down?

@ranasingh athiesm is a huge thing it is the fastest growing ideology today, 2nd being islam they breed fastest. Sikhi is nice to some but sikhi is about your own spirtual experiences trying have those when you have them people around you will see it and they will come to you for inspiration. Provoke thought and inspire let them find there way. you can not force our path down someones throat we are not here to convert people but here to meet our creator through simran and sewa and sadhsangat.

@ranasingh one thing about preaching is you don't do it immediately you get to know the person and judge when they are comfortable to talk about religion alot of europeans today are atheists and hate religion. If they talk about culture first then you can communicate it you ask them questions first then when the answer fully then you can say my culture says this or tradition or religion. Or you make friends on the base of other similarities before jumping into such a topic. Respect other people

@jagara1 Sikhi doesn't neccesarily have to be non-european we have europen influences since alexandra the great took over punjab, many caucasians are mixed in our geneology and we have been ruled by the british and leave in britian after 9/11 it has been more alien then with the bnp, nf and skinheads. Xenophobia is not new people have hated jews and blacks before and still now it will take time to build up better tolerance. People don't take time to get to know people or like them.

@jagara1 cont. pt 4. You need to be in your own comfort zone, spiritualy helps in that even how you dress and accepting of yourself and your own thoughts we spend the most time with ourselves. The world we live in is what we make it we all perceive the world differently if you are paranoid and believe everyone hates you is out to get you, there is an issue in your own mind not the world. The world is beautiful it can be a heaven or you can make it a living hell. You need to like yourself first.

@jagara1 cont pt 3.. sometimes even what a homeless man says can be invaluable. There are some people who are superficial they in the end loose out to so much more in what you say. So you are addressing "does it bother you" it bothers some people they go and cut there hair for not just communicating sikhi stuff but overall day to day interactions and it doesn't bother others. Most sikhs don't really preach most are pluarists and respect others spiritual path we are not muslims or jevoh witnesses

@jagara1 cont. so in todays 21st century the fashion around today compared to sikh 300year old maybe 200year old refined fashion mixed with some 21st century addidas, nike, d and g, gucci etc.. tops, trousers shoes. Can send mixed messages. It is a famous british saying "do not judge a book by its cover" so there are some people humble enough to look beyond what you dress and into your thoughts, ideas and soul because they realise it can hold value even if you look like a bum ...

@jagara1 Well after paul brought christianity through the romans the newer version potrayed by king james was mainly european which even took over middle eastern versions and after islamic conquest the middle east became home to islam so for past few hundred years christianity really was key in the uk. If you look back into pictures of britian dating back 100 years and prior most british men had very long beards shaving was around but not popular, gillete advertised introduced the safety blade

@jagara1 Do you mean if you are thirsty and I give you water in a cup and you wont take it to quench your thirst just because you are accustomed to drink it in only in the glass so would you prefer to die of thirst?? Wake up man there are countless cultures in every part of the world. A wise man of any ethnic or nationality would observe the content of the speech no one cares what you wear, and though I am a non sikh I respect what they wear and look along with their kind work

Come on please read what I wrote - I don't care about three hundred years ago, I am talking about modern Europe as in 2011...

Let's re-phrase, it here we go again - does it bother you that what you wear gets in the way of communicating your message to a non Sikh?

@jagara1 it doesn't necessarily have to be non-european. Europe is home to christianity throughout the bible and old testament there are many references to the turban and these cotton lions and turbans were worn by many christians only in recent time have the wearing of such garments faded aways like gillete introduced shaving. christians used to keep long beards some european's still have beards and some still wear garments on there head. The whole outfit is about humility its all about respect
