Every day police departments across the country are adding video cameras, recorders and digital cameras as additional tools in their arsenal to fight crime and to present additional visual evidence. However, the police do not like it when concerned citizens stop to observe and record what they do. On March 12, 2008 I encountered the Torrance Police Department SWAT team in El Segundo. One of the police officers rudely said, "no pictures". This law enforcement officer was in no position to say anything. Any reasonable citizen has a right to be vigilant and question what is another city's police agency doing in our city. I did call the El Segundo Police Department and they did indicate they were in town for training. Just wanted to make sure they were legitimate and not play acting.

  • The funny thing is, I did not post this footage to be adversarial, the fact that Police now have cameras on them and their Police vehicles they can capture images of the public. But God forbid the public stops to obvserve (at a lawful location)and make them accountable for their actions.

  • When you attend a California Post Certified Academy, you are authorized to enforce the California Penal Code and Vehicle Code anywhere in the state of California. Furthermore that SWAT ARV is shared by several SoBay agencies including El Segundo and Torrance. There is no jurisdiction violation here whatsoever. And you are not permitted to tape the training exercises of SWAT teams without their permission, the officer had every right to tell you to buzz off.. lucky that's all you got from TPD.

  • I'm all in favor of training. But in public view, there is nothing they can do. Last I checked, we do not live in a fascist or military junta dictatorship.

  • @805Nicodemus Fuck you, douche!

  • @TorrancePolice LOL!!! Your page is cracking me up! LOL! LOL! LOL!

  • @MRCODE7 Go to hell. Under federal wiretapping law when you are in the public domain and can be seen from a public place, YOU CAN BE FILMED! Don't like it, either die or quit being a cop (maybe the latter or both are th best moves for ya!)

  • @Philflash True, Phile, true.

  • Just wanted to say hello to all the supporters of the Torrance Police Department

  • You're a fucking idiot, Phil.

  • Fire in the hole.

  • one word these cops are

  • Who cares who pays for what, what agency they're from, ad nauseum!

HE HAD THE RIGHT TO FILM THEM!

PERIOD. JUST BECAUSE THE POLICE DON'T LIKE IT DOES NOT MAKE IT ILLEGAL.

But of course these officers would have just played the CONTEMPT OF COP card (bogus disorderly conduct charge) had this man not acquiesced.

    THUGS.

    Wise up you false patriots.
