1 ACRE GRASS FIRE - PONCA CITY

Approx. 1 acre went up in flames Monday just before noon along Lansbrook. Most of the area that burned was an empty lot. The origin of the fire was the SW side of the lot and is believed to be arson. The fire approached several homes but Ponca City Police Officers were first on the scene and started working the fire with a garden hose from a nearby home and were able to keep it from spreading any farther north until the Ponca City Fire Dept arrived and was able to snuff the fire out in under 15 minutes. Calm winds and moisture from the recent 5" snow was the only thing keeping this from spreading faster than what it did.

25,000 people is still a small town in my book

I went to school in a town with a population of 300 and my senior class had like 8 people in it counting myself, that's what I call a small town.

Ponca City has a population of about 25,000 people.

i live in a town with about 2 million people so 25,000 is nothing to me

Dave bunker coats are unsafe for wildland or grass fires. Someone can overheat way to fast and that poses a greater danger in this type of case. I would love to have wildland gear Though for are grass fires. I know some depts who use wildland gear for overhaul in structure fires for the same reason.
