This hotel has loads of history - but forget about the astronauts and the US president that stayed here, it's the LIFTS that I am interested in!!!

There are three lifts - all have had the lift cars refurbished but 'the way the floor indicators flicker and change' it's likely the original controllers are still there.

I didn't charge my digital camera battery prior to this visit (DOH!) so I didn't have enough battery to film all the lifts, although the only lift that I found interesting is the old Schindler Scenic lift.
Winding drum machines do normally have a counter weight - there is no counterweight in this lift shaft. It is possible that the ropes have been diverted to the other lift, and the counterweight is in there, but unlikely.

As I couldn't get into the motor room (door was too high and probably locked anyway) ...for a video on a winding drum see:

...check out the way the cables unwind from the drum from one side to the other.

  • Luxemburg? Where the hell are you always ? :D

  • @funcik1 One of our customers has sites all over Europe. I don't go abroad that often, about once every 2 months on average.

  • very nice lift.

  • @benobve Cool, thanks.

  • Now THAT is how you modernize an elevator! If it weren't for the new COP you would never know that it was modernized!

  • @thyssenelevator95 Yep, no black buttons you mean? :P I like the bulb position indicators on the lower levels with the totally faided ink on the paper behind.

  • @mrmattandmrchay Okey :)

Next time go to my country , Poland , there are lot's of public Gen2 , and the other polish companies with old lifts ^^

  • @funcik1 That's the question :) I don't know. Does it have one? Might not, but if it does, it'll probably be in the lift shaft of the lift that's next door. But the other lift serves the 6th floor, where the scenic lift stops at the 5th, so the shafts don't exactly line up.

    We may never know.

  • @harrihealey02 Cool, thanks Harri :) The motor room isn't 'really' high. Probably some short steps would get to it. My shoes were a little too slippery to start climbing on hand rails to reach it, so I didn't!! I'll take trainers next time LOL!

I checked out the motor rooms for the other lifts. They do a strange thing here, the key for the motor room is in a seperate small locked cabinet, that's mounted ON the door (you can see it in the middle of the screen at 01:56-it's in the red box).

  • Very high up :O! I hate it when I see things like that but like it at the same time because the height is so impressive. oh - how are you or someone else supposed to get into that motor room that high in an awkward position by the stairs what happens if the ladder falls? :D I like the way the shaft is open on the winding drum lift because it makes it look much better than the ordinary lift especially. Great video! 5*

  • Where is the counterweight btw?
