  • I think this is one of the most interesting recordings of Glenn Gould. His sound so smooth and powerfull in the right moment.I adore his interpretation

  • Glenn is in complete control here, notice how he ends the cadenza at 5:03, definitely a force. The Russians were so unaccustomed to Bach at that time too

  • @colourfulwithaU Pinnock's version indeed is great. Others that I like are these (by three other great harpsichord players):

    - Pierre Hantaï: /watch?v=dZOF8YEBI90

    - Rinaldo Alessandrini: /watch?v=U7vpEceSdDI

    - Christophe Rousset: /watch?v=tus5U1Ld8g4

But I guess you already know these ;-)

  • @colourfulwithaU I have that version on my playlist. It speaks volumes about Bach's genius. Both the harpsichord and violin version offers a deep insight into this magical work but neither can sufficiently express all its ideas.

  • @NimbleTurtle13

I agree entirely about the interpretation. My favourite version of this is the English Concert with Trevor Pinnock.

  • @colourfulwithaU I think the Toccata and Fugue in dm was composed before the age of 20... if he did compose it. And I would not say this is his "best piece" or any of his pieces are his "best". Almost everything he composed is a unique masterpiece which arouses feelings that are always differently depending on the person. Btw I do not think this interpretation is very good - orchestra is too heavy and there's no sensible articulations. Did you ever hear Harmonico101's upload of this concerto?

  • @colourfulwithaU It doesn't really matter when he composed it... he could compose anything with a divine quality at any time. If we look at any of his work past the age of 20, we see that Bach maintains consistent quality in all his works.
