There was no public outcry then just like there isn't one now. Democrats would have you believe that this is an urgent situation, yet the new proposed bill, if it becomes law, doesn't take affect for another 4 years? A majority of Americans are happy with their current healthcare insurance. Sure, reform like TORT reform to lower costs would be great, but the situation isn't as dire as they make it seem.

We can build public libraries, public schools, public beaches, space shuttles, wars, fire departments, post office, what is the problem here? I'll tell you what the problem is here: people in the United States are always scared silly some inner city slicker is going to beat them out of a dollar. I'm an idependent conservative who has no love for the insurance companies. I looked at Obama as a former marxist who governs as a benign moderate democrat. I no longer feel that way. I wanted to give him the benifit of the doubt when he said that the plan would not be subsidized with tax payer money, the co-op seemed like a good plan to offset the high cost of health insurance. Now we find out that everything he said in his speech before congress was a lie

BREAKING: failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bills new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years.
