Workers from the Ford Rouge complex denounced concessions contained in the current contract when speaking with reporters from the World Socialist Web Site, on Tuesday, March 4, when voting was taking place at the local 600 union hall. CEOs and top union officials were not suffering the effects of the current collapse. They said that after years of pay cuts and give backs, the working class faces a fight with the unions. Several cited the history of the Rouge plant: once the jewel of the corporation and the largest industrial complex in the world, the Rouge is also the location of an overpass which was the scene of a famed battle where four workers died in a mass struggle for union recognition. They felt that tradition had been betrayed.

  • @hoardpm : Yes, it is your union, so you have to help out and work with your leadership; and don't let all of the work fall on their shoulders.

This is not the time to turn against your own organization.

Local 600 has a proud; and hard-fought history, don't throw it all away. Your Forefathers and Foremothers worked with their leadership.

  • These days with only highschool diploma U R not going to have a pension and health care.Fact is U have to compete with wages Japan pays there workers.Captialism is unfair disrtibution of wealth. Socailism is equally divided poverty.U want to be in USSR?

  • It has gotten so that you don't know who is who anymore. This "Car Czar" Obama appointed looks to be a crook who has stolen the workers pensions. You wonder who is really on the side of the American worker. One thing is true-divide and conquer. I think they have infiltrated the unions already. Either by bribes or maybe scare tactics.

  • When Bob king was asked direct questions he did the polical side-step and/or refused to answer the questions. At one point they shut the mic of on a member who was asking questions. Our union has become a discrace.

  • I work at KCAP local 249. I couldn't agree with you more. I can't belive this thing passed. At our ratification meeting Bob King was there to "explain" the consession package.

  • Good video! I'm in the CSEA and half the reason I joined the IWW is because the CSEA side with management almost all the time, and I know when our contract is renewed in 2011 we're going to have even less rights and benefits than we have now.
