I hit High D at 4:46. Phew!

FYI, I start out off stage and enter from the right. The yellow subtitles mark the sisters, the green subtitles mark Frederick and the purple text marks Mabel (me).

Probably best known for being featured in the animated film An American Tail, the song Poor Wandering One was written by Gilbert and Sullivan for the opera, The Pirates of Penzance which premiered in New York City in 1879.

This was my one and only performance as Mabel in the 1998 production by the Huntington Beach Academy for the Performing Arts. It was a morning performance, which is why I am sometimes really reaching to hit the high notes.

Nonetheless, I'd say my voice was at its prime at this age (I was 16 years old). The note I hit at about 4:45 is probably the highest note I've ever managed to reach onstage while still sounding good.

  • This piece was transposed down. You should mention that in your notes.

It's too bad the girls chorus sing in that awful belt style, since you are singing in your head voice. They don't match what you're doing...it's like they're from a different show.

  • Hmm. This was ten years ago in high school and I wasn't aware it was transposed down. Perhaps the school chose to do the Linda Ronstadt revival version. The girls were told to give the daughters character which I think explains the odd singing. I agree it's distracting lol.

  • your voice is BEAUTIFUL and you did a GREAT job BUT reading you 'more info' bit and comments you have posted.. YOUR FUCKING UP YOUR ASS ABOUT IT!!

  • What does "up your ass" mean? I make it pretty clear this was the highlight of my voice, as I've grown rusty since then. Do you speak to people to their face like this, or are you just being vulgar because you can hide behind Internet anonymity?

  • oh my lord.

one of the best voices ive ever heard!!!!!!

    absolutely beautiful :]

  • Heehee

  • I know what you mean. I got into a musical recently, but my audition was horrible because I was so nervous. One thing that helps is to try to get into the acting portion. If you are busy just feeling, then your muscle memory will take over the technical part.

  • How dare you lull at my serious efforts!

  • I lol'd.....JK, shall I say.....""Tis good."?
