To Aspiring Songwriters : Notice Mr. Cash's breakthrough storytelling lyrical moment. His writing frame of reference suddenly dollied the scene back as a director: "He looked down, his long hair". Not; 'clutched' or 'stroked' or 'pulled'. Only 3 words: 'his long hair". To my genius friend, Brian Mallen, and myself, in 1970, this observation was magical to us.
